Sometimes love speaks for itself…
After an
accident in the line of duty, firefighter Roberto DeRosa’s life is turned
upside down. His career fighting fires is over, and he’s left with an uncertain
future and an injury that makes communicating difficult for him. The only time
words flow easily is when they’re lyrics and he has a guitar in his hands. Talking
to women is definitely out, especially if they have bright blue eyes that seem
to see right into his soul.
Dani Hodge
is on the brink of realizing her dream of opening a small combination wine and
book store in San Diego’s funky Ocean Beach neighborhood. But before she can
open the doors, there’s work to be done, more work than she can do herself.
When the
tattooed guy who completely ignored her at a bar walks by and offers her a hand
wrangling a tile saw, Dani can’t afford to say no—and why would she say no to
Mr. Strong and Silent when his stare conveys more than words could?
Gina’s Review
Without Words by Delancey Stewart is a sweet romance of two characters who have suffered hard times in their lives. Dani Hodge and her sister grew up with their grandmother because their parents were incapable of caring for them. Drugs. She also hasn’t been successful in relationships and has no trust or faith in men. When their grandmother dies, Dani decides to take her inheritance and open the business she’s been dreaming about – a wine and book lounge. Problem is in order to set up this business, she needs to completely redo the space she rented and her carpentry skills are not all that.
Roberto DeRosa was a firefighter, who got injured on the job and suffered a traumatic brain injury that has left him with communication struggles. No longer to perform his firefighting job, he bounces in and out of his friend’s club to pay his guitar but otherwise can’t find what he want to do with himself. He gets pressure from his mother’s new husband about joining his construction crew and his father and brothers are trying to convince him to move to Mexico to work the vineyard. Neither appeals to Rob. Then he meets Dani and something does appeal to him.
The way Rob and Dani meet is sweet. Both seem a bit skittish and unsure of themselves. I did feel that Dani’s position on men was a bit extreme. I guess I didn’t quite buy into her fear of relationships as she’d only had one. The idea that men always leaved could have been developed a bit more to give her some depth. Otherwise, this was an easy read. Great for propping your feet up on a lounge chair by the pool and allowing Ms. Stewart to taking you on this beautiful journey.
I give Without Words 3.5 sweet silver buckles.

contemporary romance from her home outside Washington D.C. In a house populated
by two tiny pirates and one full-sized Marine aviator, inspiration for her
heroes is never hard to find—though quiet time to write often is!
