Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in this prequel to USA TODAY bestselling author Lauren Layne’s The Wedding Belles series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.
Up-and-coming wedding photographer Leah McHale’s career is on the rise–thanks in no small part to the Wedding Belles, the elite New York wedding planning agency that always throws top-tier business Leah’s way. So when one of the Belles asks Leah to fill in at the former First Daughter’s wedding, Leah is overjoyed to say yes–until she finds out who she’ll be working with.
Jason Rhodes is the one man who was able to capture Leah’s heart and, once he had it, promptly stepped all over it and left her broken. Now he’s working side-by-side with her at the biggest wedding of the season and Leah is determined to give him the cold shoulder. Despite his persistence, she is not going to fall for his charming, impish ways again. Not even if he still has that killer, irresistible smile…
I have to say that I loved reading From This Day Forward by Lauren Layne! It was such a sweet story about love and the problems that can arise from miscommunication in relationships. I’m sure we have all gotten so mad at someone that we just want to end the conversation, or just plain walk away without the conversation even beginning… and that’s exactly what happens when Leah knocks on her boyfriend, Jason’s door only to be greeted by a pretty girl smiling back wearing nothing but Jason’s shirt. What?! Of course she turns away and bolts and avoids any further contact with him- disregarding all of the texts, phone calls and voicemails he leaves for her. She doesn’t give him the chance to explain, and that could possibly be one of the biggest mistakes of her life. A year goes by without her having any contact with him, until she is hired by her friend Alexis, owner of the elite wedding planning company The Wedding Belles, to photograph one of the biggest weddings of her career- the wedding of the former president’s daughter. She is completely caught off guard when she learns from Alexis that she will not be the sole photographer for this wedding. Her dear friend has also hired Jason, who happens to also be one of the best photographers around. Leah is now going to be forced to not only work side by side with Jason on a shoot that will likely catapult her photography career forward, but also face her past with Jason and possibly her future with him.
I really enjoyed From This Day Forward because I love stories about how the choices that people make change their paths. It’s always so interesting when there is a lack in communication which leads to characters having such a misunderstanding of what has actually occurred. This was definitely the case with Leah and Jason. This was so sad because there’s a part in the book where Jason says that he feels like this has always been the case in his life. Having grown up in the foster system, he felt that he was never listened to, understood, trusted or given a real chance at happiness. Then to have that happen again with Leah, someone he felt like he was falling in love, with was heartbreaking. It was so exciting to share in the passion that they both felt instantly upon seeing each other again and realizing that they may have a second chance at making things right. He certainly made it clear that he wasn’t going to let anything get in the way this time, although it was interesting to watch his internal struggle towards the end.
Overall, I totally recommend reading From This Day Forward. It was one of those stories that you will just breeze through, love every second of it and then totally miss the characters when it ends. It’s such a sweet story just in time for the summer!
I give From This Day Forward 4 silver buckles!
