Best Friends with Benefits
Most Likely To #1
By: Candy Sloane
Releasing March 14, 2016 Entangled Brazen
Valerie Barkin and Alec Rogers survived bullies, awful parents, and seriously shitty social standing the only way best friends can—together. But with the unexpected sexual tension suddenly flaring between them, surviving their ten-year high school reunion might be a different story…
Val hasn’t changed. She still feels like the stringy-haired band geek the popular kids teased, but Alec has definitely changed. He’s now the front man for the Grammy-winning rock band Chronic Disharmony, with the sexual reputation to match. And he’s more than willing to help Val rock the reunion.
And then it happens—a drunken game of Seven Minutes in Heaven—and their fourteen-years-long foreplay comes crashing to the forefront…changing everything.
Seven minutes turns into a weekend of mind-blowing, no-strings-attached sex. But these best friends won’t be able to leave their hearts out of it forever, not when the most meaningful benefit could change their relationship for good….

Best Friends With Benefits by Candy Sloane
I’ve expressed my love for Entangled Publishing in the past. If you’re looking for an entertaining read, you can bet that Entangled will bring it. Best Friends with Benefits by Candy Sloane is no different. And I’m a sucker for best friends to lover stories.
Valerie Barkin and Alec Rogers were best friends growing up. Not the popular type. Both in band—and I’m not saying that being in the band can’t be popular. Or that popularity means anything at all. Once high school is over, no one—except for maybe those that never grow out of high school—cares about popularity. Anyway, I digress. They are both self-professed geeks. Val and Al are an inseparable pair. Valerie growing up with warm and loving parents. Al, not so much. They built a friendship based on all the things friendship should be based on: trust, reliability, love and fun times. But after high school they go their separate ways, staying in touch, but living their lives. Val becomes a flutist for a philharmonic. Al becomes the lead in a rock band—Chronic Disharmony.
Fast forward ten years and they attend their high school reunion. Valerie just ended a relationship and is feeling a bit singed in the world of men. Al has had his fill of women, but the meaningless sex seems to be wearing thin.
Showing up at the reunion, they get suckered into a combination game of spin the bottle and seven minutes in heaven. Uh-huh! Been there. Done that. In high school. Hard to imagine at twenty-eight, but they do it and end up in the closet together.
Sparks fly! Both of them realizing they’ve always had some deeper feelings for each other than they ever let show or cared to admit. But with their lives worlds apart—Al a big time rock star and Val on her way to London for a year at the philharmonic, can they really make anything more than a long weekend work?
Ms. Sloane has done a great job creating characters that are real. We see Al’s emotions regarding his mother, who suffered much like him under the hands of his father. We feel Al’s admiration and desire for Valerie. And we can understand Valerie’s hesitations and worry over handing over her heart to Al. The storyline is fun and quick moving. Ms. Sloane keeps you engaged.
I give Best Friends With Benefits four (4) silver buckles.

“I can teach you my ways.” He lifted his brows up and down comically. “The best way to get over a breakup is to fuck someone new.”
“That’s Cock-fucius,” he tossed back with a wicked grin.
She shook her head. “I can only imagine what your fortune cookies might say.”
He opened his mouth to reply, and she pressed a hand over it.
“If you say it’s fortune nookie you get a punch to your namesake.”
Man up, Alec. Best friend or not, she is telling you to fuck her.
No more talking, no more thinking. He’d fuck her so hard she’d shriek the answer he’d waited for like it was the only word she knew. She’d forever equate the affirmative with the plunge of his cock. He reached for her. His fingers were inches away from those teasing nipples when she pulled back.
“I have rules.”
“What?” His voice was filled with shocked laughter. He pressed his outstretched hands against the bed. He should have known it wouldn’t be so easy.
“If we’re going to do this,” she said, her face so serious he thought it might crack, “there are things we need—”
“I have rules, too,” he interrupted. He didn’t at the moment, but Val’s maturity always did that to him. It was something he admired and tried, though usually failed, to copy.
“Mine first.” She focused her eyes on the mirror across the room and away from him. “I want an orgasm.”
