It’s not every day that we get an opportunity to pick the brain of an author. We have Alla Kar-author of Redemption-giving us some insight as to what makes her tick. 🙂

Tell us a little about yourself – I’m 25 years-old and I live in Arkansas. I’m an English major that also works in the literary world other than being an author. I have an obsession with romance novels, mashed potatoes and my husband. We’re expecting our first child at the beginning of next year. I’ve been writing under a pen name for about three years, and it’s the most exciting part of my day.

Congratulations on becoming a mommy! It’s the best “job” you’ll ever have! 🙂

When did you decide to become a writer and what was the first thing you wrote? – I started writing my freshman year of college. It was a vampire romance (dodges tomatoes) that I turned into a werewolf romance a couple years later. It wasn’t good—at all.

Where is your ideal writing spot? – Well, it used to be on my bed, laying on my stomach. However, my unborn son won’t allow that now. So, now it’s anywhere I can get comfortable.

How do you get your ideas? – Different places. Sometimes a song lyric, or a person I come in contact with. Sometimes I’ll daydream at work and they’ll just hit me. I try to keep a notepad with me so I can write down my ideas as they come. I suffer from short term memory loss.

What do you find to be the hardest thing about writing? The easiest thing? – The hardest thing is getting to a spot where you know what you want to happen, but something is missing. A lot of times I’ll re-read what I have from the beginning and it’ll hit me, other times I’ll sit in my self-pity and cry until it does. 🙂 The easiest thing about writing is bringing the characters to life. I love it so much that it’s never really been an issue. (Knock on wood.)

What is your writing process? Do you outline your stories/characters? – I write down a short summary of what I want to happen first. Then I start breaking down the chapters one by one, but most of the time my characters write the story themselves, it just happens as I go.

What are you currently working on? – I’m currently working on a southern contemporary romance for Swoon. I’m not sure how much I’m supposed to tell but it sort of has a Beauty and The Beast feel to it, heavy on the beast. 🙂

Where did the idea for your story come from? How long did the story take you to complete? – The story actually comes from the song Blank Space by Taylor Swift. I thought about how many girls actually consider their relationships like the song, and it kind of went from there. It’s taken me a while this one, only because it’s been a hectic few months for me.

What books/authors have most influenced your life?- Prince Albert: A Billionaire Stepbrother Romance

What are your thoughts on the debate: e-books vs. paperback? – This is such a sticky subject. From an author’s POV I would say every author wants to be able to hold their work in their hands, and skim the pages in the flesh. It’s nature for us. However, from a reader’s POV I would say e-book is cheaper and easier to handle. I really don’t have one opinion on this. It’s a double edged sword for me.

My favorite books from the past five years would be The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, and Easy by Tammara Webber.

The Help. The Fault in Our Stars.

Sixteen Candles. Bridesmaids.

Taylor Swift. Elle King.

Wildest Dreams. Ex’s and Oh’s.

TV Show?

Dancing With The Stars. The 100. True Blood. Bob’s Burgers.

Ian Somerhalder. Johnny Depp. Kristen Wiig.

Homemade mashed potatoes.

Destination/Vacation Spot?

I’ve never been but I’ve always wanted to go to Australia.

Captain America. Or maybe it’s just Chris Evans?

His second chance may cost him his sweetest addiction …

The truth about NEVEAH’S cheating fiancée hit hard—but not as hard as her right hook to his jaw. After ridding herself of him she travels back home to Huntsville, Texas to her father and his boxing gym where she grew up. When she finds a beaten man in the woods beside her home, her entire life changes and things get—complicated.

Ex-con RAGE only wants two things—for the man that set him up to release his sister, and for him to burn in Hell where he belongs. After being released from prison, he heads straight to the man that put him there, only to be beaten and tossed in the woods for dead. When he’s found by the most beautiful girl he’s ever met, he knows he’ll have a chance to rescue his sister even though she doesn’t realize she needs saving.

Neveah and her father, nurse Rage back to heath, offer him a job at their gym and quickly find out that he’s amazing in the ring. Without them knowing who he is, he knows he’s been given a second chance to live his life. The only condition is that he has to stay away from Neveah, which is a promise he soon realizes is hard to keep. The feisty southern beauty normally gets what she wants, and Rage wants to give her everything.

With the truth lurking in the shadows, Rage must decide if his sweetest addiction is worth giving up his second chance.

My name is Alla Kar. I live in the deep south with my fiancé and Chihuahua. I love to write about alpha males, southern gentlemen and swoon-worthy men! 🙂
