Quinn has spent her whole life working in her dad’s garage, leaving her more comfortable with a carburetor than a curling iron. Her world is turned upside down when her beloved garage is bought by none other than world famous, sexy as sin, custom car builder, Tazen Watts. He’s the one man she can’t stand…even though he makes her hotter than a high performance engine in top gear.
Tazen has no use for Quinn, at least not professionally, and he’s making sure she knows it. But there’s a spark between them that she’s finding hard to ignore. She’s determined to prove her talent is as impressive as her sassy mouth. When she finds out Tazen is hiding a secret that could bring down his career and everyone involved in it, she wonders: is falling for him is going to be work the risk?

Hard to Break (book 2 of Alpha’s Heart) by Bella Jewel
This was my first book by author Bella Jewel. When I initially started this book, I enjoyed it immensely. I love when heroines are not your typical run-of-the-mill. Quinn was a mechanic—yes, a car mechanic—who grew up in the shop with her father. She had a close knit family—her father, her mother and her. Life was perfect, or close to it. Instead of going to college, Quinn helped her father run his auto shop and she was damn good at it. But then her mother passed away and her father turned to alcohol to drown out his grief, so Quinn was left to pick up the pieces and keep her and her father afloat. This is a great base for the heroine.
She was strong, determined, and selfless. I liked this Quinn. Despite the horror of coming home to a drunken and puking father, she tried desperately to have a positive outlook. Despite the money problems with the auto shop, she worked feverishly trying to keep things going and her staff—her only real friends—from being without work. The fire in her was what caught my attention.
The introduction of Tazen Watts sparks a little more of Quinn’s fire. His cocky attitude is not overshadowed by his celebrity status and when he makes it known that he’s buying Quinn’s father’s auto shop, the fiery Quinn is the character I liked. Yes, we know there’s going to be a spark with Tazen—he’s the hero of the story. But he’s trying to steal her livelihood and family history. At first, she’s not having it—but all too quickly, she does. And that’s where this story kind of lost me.
Quinn seemed to lose her identity—her personality with Tazen. It was just another alpha male and a female he claimed. I like alpha males just like anyone else. Sometimes as a woman, we want our man to be protective and domineering. But once the attraction between Tazen and Quinn heated up, I felt like we lost Quinn and that saddened me because I really, really liked her.
Though I was disappointed in the disappearance of the original Quinn, I did enjoy the story. There are some great scenes between Quinn and the men she worked with in the auto shop and there are moments with Tazen that will warm you or make you laugh.
I give this book 3.5 Silver Buckles.
